Factors to Know Before Dry Needling

Dry needling is not a very common procedure for physiotherapy, nevertheless, people are gradually becoming aware of this technique and its various advantages. If you are not unaware or uninformed about this technique, let PHYSIOREVIVE tell you about it.

Dry needling is a therapeutic procedure that is done by inserting dry, short, fine, solid stainless-steel filiform needles into myofascial trigger points. This treatment is also known as myofascial dry needling therapy because it relieves myofascial pain and ameliorates the range of motion of joints. Typically performed by professionals trained physiotherapists.

This is a slightly unfamiliar procedure, so people do not know what to expect or what type of preparation they should be doing before going into sessions. Here are a few things that you should know before going for dry needling.

– Ask Questions

Whether you are informed about this procedure or not, it is always beneficial to ask as many questions as you like. The level of your nervousness and anxiety reduces as gradually all your questions are answered. Do not hesitate even if you have hundreds of questions.

–  Assessment & examination

Carry the record of your medical history with you because prior to the procedure, therapist will go through it. He/she will then do an assessment including physical examination and will see if you are a suitable candidate for the dry needling.

Dry needling in Delhi is done by the utmost professionals at PHYSIOREVIVE, they will leave no stone unturned to make sure that you are at zero risk or have any unusual side effects post procedure. However, as a patient, be honest about your medical history, do not hide anything from the therapist.

–  Timing

Usually, the session does not last long, it takes about 5-10 minutes to get the procedure done. However, along with dry needling, you have other sessions such as physiotherapy including exercises and cold pack application, so the overall procedure may last from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your recovery from the previous session.

–  Location & Setting

Unlike other therapies, dry needling physio therapy at home is although possible but this process requires some severe medical attention, which is only available at the centre or clinic. But, you don’t have to worry about it because it will be a private session, you will be taken to a separate curtained or enclosed room so there won’t be any onlookers to make you nervous.

–  Proper Outfit

Just like physiotherapy, you need to wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and which provide the therapist with access to the area of treatment. For instance, If your shoulder needs to be treated, then wear a sleeveless or a half-sleeved t-shirt that can easily roll up to your shoulder. Or if your knee is to be treated, then wear shorts or loose baggy pants that can easily be rolled up to your knee.

–  Assurance

Dry needling therapy is an advanced treatment which is novel but effective so professionally a consent is required before its done. It sounds more ethical & professional, if patient is well explained before the procedure to ensure best results.
